CATARACT SURGERY WHAT IS THE COST OF CATARACT SURGERY? Since prices of everything change from time to time, and since the cost of surgery depends on which type of operation is done, we will not attempt to include specific fees on this web site. If you have medicare coverage, the Federal Government has set a specific allowable charge for cataract surgery. They have price controls to less than one third of what private usual and customary fees are. This is a complex set of rules called RBRVS. They also have complex rules for chart noting and documentation, so please be patient with us as we try to comply to these rules. We or someone in our office will discuss them with you depending on your particular situation. We will supply you with a written estimate of charges. In addition to the surgeon's fee you can expect charges from Day Surgery, an anesthesiologist, and an assistant surgeon if one is used. (Normally in cataract surgery no assistant is used). The Federal Government rules designate astigmatic keratotomy as a non-covered procedure. Patients who elect to have the astigmatic keratotomy procedure are required pay for this out of pocket. Our office will assist you with Medicare and insurance forms if you will bring us your policy numbers and complete the forms prior to surgery.
